Our company’s roots extend back to 1964, when Palomex Oy was founded to manufacture on an industrial basis the Orthopantomograph®, an invention of Professor Yrjö Paatero. The device allowed a panoramic X-ray dental image to be taken in a single exposure.
The Instrumentarium Group acquired Palomex Oy in 1977. At the same time, some of the company’s operations were detached, leading to the founding of SOREDEX Oy. In 1981 SOREDEX merged with the Orion Group. The Palomex name was changed to Instrumentarium Imaging in 1988. In 2001 the Instrumentarium Group acquired SOREDEX, thus creating in the company a dental imaging equipment unit consisting of two strong brands. General Electric acquired the Instrumentarium Group in 2003 and dental imaging devices became part of GE’s Healthcare business.
Dental imaging operations were separated from GE in 2005. PaloDEx Group Oy was founded to continue this field of business. In its capacity as the parent company, PaloDEx occupies a leading position in the international dental imaging equipment market. The company’s product families, Instrumentarium Dental and SOREDEX, are among the world’s most respected and best known dental brands.
